Fresh Colours

Fresh new pieces on a cool Sydney winter's day.

 


Apple Necklace made with raku lampwork by Beeboo, an Elaine Ray lentil, and some sweet free form apple shaped beads by MaryAnn Carroll. This is the first time I've tried the beaded  loop button closure, seen here with a Mamacita pewter button.




Can you believe that amazing pendant is glass? Outwest is a talented bead artist, that's for sure. A simple combination. Sometime I struggle with names for pieces, and end up a maybe bit corny, but it would be really boring  if we just called pieces by colour and type,  "olive and cream necklace".  Bullseye Necklace - hmmm....not sure about the name...

    These are lovely. I am working with a color palette similar to the top one for my Gallery Q exhibit. (love the button!)

    I found some zany ways to come up with names...I keep a little notebook with them. When I hear a snippet of a song lyric or read a line in a poem, I write it down. I recently found some intriguing names by Googling "Name Generator". I am particularly fond of the fantasy name generators. There was a funny one that gave you superhero names! Try that out!

    As for the bottom one I was thinking something along the lines of "Mesmerized" or "Hypnotic"...

    Oooh, those colors in the first necklace? DIVINE! I wish I had lampwork glass in those colors!

    Love the second necklace! It looks more like a spinning wheel to me than a bull's eye. I also like Erin's suggestion, too!

Slowly Healing

Hi there, sorry it has been so long between posts. I've been making only small amounts of jewellery of late, and have been trialling my new light tent to take photos, with mixed results - it can get very dark at our place during winter so I finally gave in. The egg bead featured below is by the lovely Vero of Narrative - what a talented artist she is. Egg Pendant On a personal note, the loss of Main Coon Max cat three months ago left me with not a lot to say for a while blog wise- he might have "only been a cat" as non pet people say, but to my husband Kevin and I, he was a vital part of our lives, and we were not prepared to say goodbye after 4 short years. Sasha, Max's sister, still looks for him every day which is somewhat heart breaking. This all has resulted in a fairly low key frame of mind as we move through our grieving time - time heals, as they say, and we are slowly mending  thanks to the love of friends, family and the sweet nature of Sasha.

Pattern and Connectors

Phew what a week!  I finished up at my day job on a Friday, and started a new role with a new firm on Monday. Busy, busy. I set up Sasha and Max on Facebook (after much hesitation - it was not a very user friendly site for a Gen X gal), and I've been a beading demon this weekend, making lots of  pairs of earrings and these necklaces. It's interesting how using like materials and scale but in very different styles can deliver some diverse results - I'm having a jewellery open afternoon next Saturday with my lovely Mum, and the possible age range of the ladies attending will be broad, hence the experimenting with styles. Hey, my jewellery design style is generally my style, so it's either your thing or not, but it does range from clean lined to more decorative when I feel like it. Maxy Cat

Sweet Maxy, one of our main coon twin cats (furr kids) after whom this blog and the jewellery shops are named has been very ill over the last few days. We are on an emotional rollercoaster, he is only a baby at 4 years, and has just pulled through major kidney surgery this afternoon. We are hoping and praying that he survives the ordeal.  If you can say a prayer or send some healing karma our way for Max that would be wonderful.
